Kay
Cameron was the impetus behind Cameron's
Crag Bed & Breakfast. After operating
Ozark Mountain Country
Bed & Breakfast Service,
a reservation service for a B&B's, for a few
years, she decided to open her own Bed &
Breakfast. Rather than purchasing a home and
renovating it as a B&B, she and husband Glen
located property just a few minutes south of
Branson, Missouri, and Kay designed a house
specifically for the new business. The home
was completed in 1986 and opened as
Cameron's Crag B&B in 1986.
Kay
was "chief innkeeper" while Glen continued
working as an administrator at nearby
College of the Ozarks and assisted with the
B&B in whatever way he could.
Following his retirement from the college in
2003, he and Kay spent a semester in The
Netherlands as part of the college's
international exchange program. During their
time away, assistant Janet Miller took over
operating the B&B. When they returned to the
United States, Kay and Janet ran the B&B
while Glen became District Executive for Boy
Scouts of America. He retired for a second
time in 2006.
Following Kay’s death
in 2009, Glen decided to keep the business
open with Janet's continued assistance and became a full time innkeeper. Kay's
influence remains evident at the B&B and
her enthusiasm and energy are greatly
missed.
For several generations, Kay and Glen’s
families have lived in the Ozarks of
Missouri and Arkansas. Glen worked in the
educational field, serving as teacher and
superintendent in public schools before
accepting an administrative position at The
School of the Ozarks (now College of the
Ozarks) in 1969. He held various positions
there including
Work Coordinator, Professor of Aviation,
Military Science professor,
Dean of Admissions, and Dean of Campus and
International Services.
Kay taught home economics in secondary
schools and at the college level. In 1982,
she established
Ozark Mountain Country
Bed & Breakfast Service, a
reservation service for Bed and Breakfast
inns throughout the Ozarks region of
Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. The
service is still in operation and currently focuses primarily on
Branson area Bed and Breakfast Inns and Vacation Homes.
Along with opening
the reservation service and her
own B&B, Kay established
Katydid Publications,
and in 1986 published the first edition of
Breakfasts Ozark Style. This
collection is a compilation of dishes from
Kay’s own heritage and background as well as
numerous offerings from Ozark Mountain
Country B&B Service hosts. This cookbook and other
Katydid Publications editions are available
online and in our Gift Shop.
Glen has been involved with Boy Scouts of
America for many years, serving as District
Chairman, Order of the Arrow Advisor,
Council Commissioner, Council President,
Area Vice President, and District Executive,
among other capacities. He continues to stay
active in Scouting on a volunteer basis.
Glen is an active Rotarian and Past District
Governor of Rotary International District
6080. He also devotes time and energy to
several church, community, and civic
organizations as well as traveling and
spending time with his children and
grandchildren.
